We do our utmost to make your dental surgery as comfortable as possible.
Dental extractions
Dental extractions are the most frequently performed procedures in oral surgery. These are generally simple procedures performed by all dentists.
In some cases, such as wisdom teeth, extraction can be more complicated. This is known as surgical extraction, and should be carried out by a specialist or a dentist with solid experience in this field.
In the case of complex extractions such as wisdom teeth, it is essential to prepare for the procedure. In such cases, a panoramic radiograph (OPT) must be taken beforehand, so that the tooth/teeth in question can be fully visualized. Pre-medication is also provided to minimize post-operative discomfort.
Dental implants
Following the healing period that occurs after an extraction, it is necessary to fill the space with a new tooth to enable the patient to regain normal dental articulation.
A dental implant replaces an extracted tooth. They consist of a crown mounted on a screw. The screw, which acts as the root, is inserted into the bone for optimum stability.
The procedure is performed by our dentists under local anaesthetic in our dental clinic.
We use implants from Straumann, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of implant systems. Developed and manufactured in Switzerland, these implants benefit from cutting-edge technology made in Switzerland.
The crown is made in collaboration with local technicians, to guarantee a precise and aesthetic result.
Advice after surgery
During the first 24 hours after a surgical procedure in the mouth there is usually a slight drop of blood and the wound may still bleed a little.
General recommendations are :
- Avoid rinsing your mouth repeatedly, as this will prevent the formation of blood clots in the wound.
- Drink and eat only cold or fresh food, as heat dilates blood vessels and may cause further bleeding.
- Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.
- Avoid intense, prolonged physical exertion
The dentists at Lausanne Smile Clinic will remind you of these recommendations after surgery, and give you individual instructions depending on the procedure performed.
